Gavin Admitted to Hospital Today…Fighting Infection, Elevated White Count

We went in for Gav’s clinic today and his white blood count is high. He has an infection and they are working on trying to figure out the cause. He has been admitted to the hospital for the next several days at least they believe. Ugh! I have hospital head already!

He has had a long day – two blood draws, an IV, several fluid draws and just constant “let me check em’s”. He was finally too exhausted to fight any longer after the final IV that hangs in his little arm was put in, and so he nodded off. It just reminded me what a fighter he is and how tough these babes are.

He is so smart. I hate to hear him scream and see him wriggle, but at least I know that he is well enough to scream and fight which is a good thing. Anytime a stethoscope came near him, he batted it away. I couldn’t help but laugh, he is normally such a good natured baby. But this baby has had enough today and was not playing nice. The nurses in the NICU told us that the feisty ones are the ones who make it! Hopefully they will be able to pinpoint his infection and have something to knock it out.

Say a prayer for him and hug your little ones extra tight tonight. I wish we were all at home enjoying some hot chocolate and a good fire and book. I, of course, even wish more that we were under a palm tree drinking out of coconut glasses splashing in the waves…but I will only ask for one miracle at a time.

We will keep you posted on Gav’s progress through his website. Thank you for your prayers.

Jill

Shop at Pick ‘n Save and Earn Money for Gavin!

Gavin is now officially part of the Pick ‘n Save WE CARE program.

This is how the WE CARE program works. Every time you shop at any Pick ‘n Save store in Wisconsin and use your Advantage Plus Savers Card at a register (this does not include service desk purchases), Gavin’s fund will receive a cash rebate which is distributed every three months. The cash rebate amount will be a percentage of the total amount of WE CARE dollars that Pick ‘n Save has contributed. The more you use your Advantage Plus Savers Card, the larger percentage of total WE CARE contribution Gavin’s fund will receive.

Here are the steps to take advantage of this program and help Gavin:

  • Visit any Wisconsin Pick ‘n Save.
  • Apply at the service desk for an Advantage Plus Savers Card.
  • If you own an Advantage Plus Savers Card, you can assign/reassign the charity organization for the WE CARE program at the service desk.
  • Assign charity organization #129110 (COTA Children’s Organ Transplant Association – Gavin Winslow) to your Advantage Plus Savers Card for the WE CARE program.

Please consider taking just a few minutes to apply for a Pick ‘n Save Advantage Plus Savers Card and assign Gavin’s fund as your WE CARE charity. If you are the current owner of a Pick ‘n Save Advantage Plus Savers Card, please consider reassigning from your current charity to Gavin’s fund for the WE CARE program. Just a few minutes of your time could mean all the difference in saving Gavin’s life.

“Fight With Food” Fundraising Campaign in Lake Mills

Paige Brien, a graphic artist from Lake Mills, has begun a “Fight with Food” fundraiser on Gavy’s behalf. She has created and donated posters and stickers to local restaurants owners who want to participate in her program. Customers who eat at participating restaurants will see a sticker on their menu that will ask customers to add one dollar to their meal total. At the end of her campaign, all of these collective dollars will be donated to baby Gavin.

Paige has asked that we recognize the efforts of these special contributors:

  • The Lake Mills Golf Course and Saucee’s Restaurant and Mr. Marc Nelson. Mr. Nelson has implemented this campaign throughout his establishment.
  • Russ’s Painting and Mr. Russ Christianson.
  • RONIN, LLC – for supporting the cost of marketing materials.

Paige will continue to update this list as other establishments join her “Fight With Food” campaign for sweet baby Gav. Our warmest thanks Paige. Thank you and to all your wonderful donors for being so generous to our sweet baby Gavin.

If you know a restaurant owner or are a restaurant owner who is interested in participating in this fundraising opportunity for Gavin, please contact Paige Brien at 920-648-6920 or Jane Schwalbach at janeschwalbach@yahoo.com.
